What hypnotherapy for excessive sweating can help with
Excessive sweating can make everyday moments feel stressful, from shaking hands to raising your arm in a meeting. Hypnotherapy for excessive sweating can help with:
- anxiety about sweating
- sweating when nervous, stressed or under pressure
- sweaty hands before handshakes or meetings
- worry about sweat patches on clothes
- a sweaty face or forehead in front of others
- sweating during presentations, interviews or dates
- avoiding situations in case you sweat
- self-consciousness and embarrassment
It aims to help you feel cool-headed and confident wherever you are.
How hypnotherapy for hyperhidrosis works
We start with the situations that worry you, what you expect will happen and what you would like to do more comfortably. The work focuses on sweating-related anxiety, self-consciousness and avoidance, alongside medical care for hyperhidrosis where needed.
In hypnosis, we rehearse moments such as a handshake, presentation or date with a steadier response. Suggestions and imagery are tailored to you, helping you direct attention towards the conversation or task rather than continually checking for sweat.

Working with a hypnotherapist for excessive sweating
Working with a hypnotherapist for excessive sweating starts with an initial consultation. In this first session, we talk about when sweating worries you most and how it affects your day.
We discuss how anxiety and learned expectations may be adding to your experience of sweating. The first appointment includes hypnosis, so the work begins straight away.
My approach is solution-focused: we agree goals that matter to you and build on the progress you notice.
What happens in a sweating hypnotherapy session
Each session after the first starts with a short conversation about what has gone well, such as a handshake or meeting that felt easier. Most of the session is hypnosis, using the techniques that suit you.
After each appointment, you receive a personalised recording of that session for practice between visits. You might set aside time before a meeting or social event, in a safe, quiet place where you can relax fully. Never listen while driving or doing anything that needs your attention.

My appointment with susannah has gone very very well, I have now been off the weed habit for over a month now, she has taken away my want to smoke it and some of the issues that go with it when you stop smoking it, I cannot thank this lady enough for giving me a new start, the voice notes that you will get after your appointment help so much, I listen to them every night before bed, now I only need to listen to them every now and then, not once have I wanted to go and get some (w) and it is all down to the appointment I had with susannah, highly recommend if you have the problem that I had, tried to give up myself but always gave in to it, I have a new life now and getting a lot done, sleeping is good and have saved a lot of money not smoking it, thinking more clearly now too, I’m so please as it’s been a habit of mine for many many years, I couldn’t have done this without her help and I’m so grateful, she is there if you need extra help too xPosted on Google![]()

I've been working with Susannah for several months to work on my insomnia issues. After a few sessions we discovered I was also mildly depressed and we have been working together to try and fix the issues I was experiencing. In just 6 weeks I've gone from a fragment of myself to an inspired, vibrant person again and I'm so thrilled with the results. Susannah's hypnotherapy sessions are beautiful and she really works with you to become better. Highly recommend her to anyone!Posted on Google![]()

Highly recommended. It is very easy to communicate with Susannah and Susannah transmits positive vibes. Clearly Susannah focus is the well being of her patients. I gave up vaping in one session, no craving and no need to substitute by something else. This helps me to open a new chapter in my life without the servitude of smoking/vaping. 100% success as far as I am concerned. Would turn to Susannah again for what ever my needs are in the future.Posted on Google![]()

I have been on quite the journey with Susannah. For so many years so many aspects of my life seemed to be causing me anxiety and anger, making me too exhausted to complete simple, everyday tasks, that seemed straightforward to other people. I couldn’t imagine things would improve without months of therapy at least. Working with Susannah however made me understand that it was my perception of my life rather than the events of my life that needed addressing, and this made finding solutions so much more manageable. Right from the first session things started to improve, and as it turned out, in total I needed only five sessions. Susannah has a gift for explaining complex functions of the brain in a super-accessible way, so that I now both understand what was going wrong and have developed strategies to support me in preventing the build-up of stress and anxiety in the future. I cannot think of an area of my life that has not been positively impacted by my time with Susannah and cannot recommend her highly enough.Posted on Google![]()

I would like to start my review with thanking Susannah. I was sceptical, but went in with an open mind. I had one session of hypnosis to help quit smoking. I was a person that could stop and start but I wanted to quit for good. My session was at the beginning of Feb and so far so good. I feel a lot better health wise also helped motivate me to consistently go to the gym and generally take better care of myself. If your thinking about doing it, go for it, best decision I've made.Posted on Google![]()

I got in touch with Susannah after yet another flight that made me feel sick and traumatised. Living overseas is great until you begin to have a fear or flying which impacts your ability to travel with your husband and also for work. Since spending time with Susannah i have been able to fly a total of 4 times in the last 2 weeks and havent gotten upset or fearful like i used too once - im now able to fly and the worst thing that happens is i get bored!! :) I cant thank Susannah enough for helping me with this fear! Also, and i think no coincidence, i am far calmer in my day to day life. I absolutely never thought id be able to get off of a plane and go in to the office, instead of needing a sleep and a drink to get through it!!! Absolutely changed my life - long may it continue.Posted on Google![]()

I'm a 33yo woman. I've struggled most of my life with low mood/depression and anxiety. I came to Susannah looking for help in changing my unhealthy habits and mindset. I can't even tell you exactly what has changed since my 3 hypnotherapy sessions, only that something in me has shifted, I feel better, more content, positive and lighter and I'm making better choices. After the first session it felt like something in my brain moved, for the better. I was really sceptical going in to this, especially as the sessions were online, but it worked. Would definitely recommend Susannah, the sessions aren't cheap but was worth every penny to me.Posted on Google![]()

I recently had 3 sessions of hypnotherapy with Susannah to help with a fear of flying that had been causing me anxiety, and tainting my experience of travel and holidays for many years. This was my first experience of hypnotherapy, and it was an extremely positive and beneficial one, as I have since been on multiple flights without that old anxiety, and free of the accompanying tension and fear. This is entirely down to Susannah's calming, patient manner and extremely insightful techniques. I can't recommend her services highly enough. “I went to Susannah after a humiliating experience left me so fearful that I stopped going out. After 7 sessions I no longer worried about making a fool of myself and the blushing and extreme sweating disappeared. I can’t tell you how this has changed my life for the better.”

What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is the medical name for sweating more than your body needs to keep cool. It often affects the hands, feet, armpits, face or scalp, and can also affect the body all over.
Primary hyperhidrosis has no known cause and often starts in childhood or the teenage years. Secondary hyperhidrosis is linked to something else, such as a medical condition, the menopause or a medicine.
Excessive sweating and your GP
See your GP if sweating is affecting your daily life, has gone on for months or happens at night. It is also worth seeing them if you take medicine for another condition, as some medicines can cause sweating.
Your GP can check for any underlying cause and talk you through treatments. Hyperhidrosis hypnotherapy works alongside any medical care you receive.
Common sweating triggers
Sweating can be triggered by heat, exercise, alcohol and spicy food. For many people, emotional triggers are just as powerful. Common ones include:
- presentations and meetings
- shaking hands or holding hands
- job interviews and appraisals
- dates and social events
- crowded trains and warm offices
- feeling watched or under pressure
- wearing light colours or fitted clothes
- worrying that you might start sweating
The last trigger often keeps the others going.
The sweating and anxiety cycle
Sweating is a natural response to heat and to emotions such as anxiety. The British Association of Dermatologists notes that anxiety can make sweating worse, so worrying about sweating can add to the problem.
You notice a damp palm, worry that others will see, and your body sweats more. Over time, simply thinking about sweating can set it off. Hypnotherapy aims to calm the worry at the centre of this cycle.
Hypnosis for anxiety sweating
Anxiety sweating, sometimes called stress sweating, happens when the body’s ‘fight or flight’ response kicks in. Your heart beats faster, your muscles tense and your sweat glands become more active.
Hypnosis for anxiety sweating aims to lower your overall stress, so your body can stay calm under pressure.
Hypnotherapy for sweaty hands
Sweaty hands, also called palmar hyperhidrosis, can make everyday tasks feel awkward. Shaking hands, writing, using a keyboard or holding a phone can all become a worry.
Many people wipe their hands before every handshake or avoid holding hands with a partner. Hypnotherapy for sweaty hands aims to calm the anxiety around these moments, so you can reach out with confidence.
Hypnosis for underarm sweating
Underarm sweating, or axillary hyperhidrosis, can leave patches on shirts and tops within minutes. Some people change clothes during the day, wear only black or keep their arms by their sides.
Sessions can address the fear of visible patches and the expectation that everyone will notice. We work towards feeling more comfortable in meetings and social situations, while you continue any antiperspirants or other treatment recommended for your sweating.
Hypnotherapy for facial sweating
Facial sweating, sometimes called craniofacial hyperhidrosis, can affect the forehead, upper lip and scalp. Because it is so visible, it can feel especially exposing during conversations, meetings or meals.
Hypnotherapy for facial sweating aims to help you feel calm when you are the focus of attention. If you also go red, my page on blushing hypnotherapy has more on this.
Hypnotherapy for sweating at work
Work can bring many triggers, from presentations and client meetings to appraisals and interviews. Managers, directors and other professionals may worry that sweating makes them look nervous or out of their depth.
Hypnotherapy for sweating at work aims to help you stay calm and composed, so you can focus on what you are saying. My page on public speaking has more on presentation nerves.
Sweating, dating and social life
Sweating can make dating and socialising feel stressful. You might worry about a hug, holding hands or sitting close to someone, or turn down invitations in warm weather.
Hypnosis aims to help you feel relaxed and at ease with people, so you can enjoy dates, parties and holidays. If worry about being judged runs wider, my page on social anxiety has more on this.
Habits that keep sweating anxiety going
Practical steps, such as loose clothing, breathable fabrics and a stronger antiperspirant, can help. Other habits are driven by fear, such as avoiding handshakes, wearing extra layers or checking your clothes for patches.
Repeated checking and avoiding situations can keep your attention on possible embarrassment. We distinguish useful practical care from fear-driven habits, then take manageable steps towards the activities you want to enjoy again.
How excessive sweating affects daily life
Excessive sweating can shape what you wear, where you sit and who you meet. Many people plan their day around it, carrying spare tops or avoiding warm places.
It can affect work, relationships and confidence, and many people feel too embarrassed to talk about it.
Who sweating hypnotherapy can help
Sweating hypnotherapy can help many different people, including:
- people with sweaty hands, feet or armpits
- those whose face or head sweats in public
- people who sweat when nervous or stressed
- professionals who present, pitch or meet clients
- people anxious about dating or physical contact
- those diagnosed with hyperhidrosis, alongside medical treatment
- people whose sweating started after a stressful time
- anyone who avoids situations in case they sweat
The focus is the worry and restriction around sweating, whether it affects one area or several. We discuss your circumstances before deciding whether the approach fits your needs.
The beliefs behind sweating anxiety
Sweating anxiety is often held in place by beliefs such as ‘everyone will notice’ or ‘people will think I’m nervous’. Others include ‘they’ll think I’m dirty’ or ‘I have to keep people at a distance’.
These expectations can become familiar and appear quickly when you feel warm or notice damp skin. We explore them and practise a more balanced response, so a sign of sweating does not have to decide how the rest of the situation goes.
Sweating, hypnosis and the subconscious mind
Sweating is regulated automatically by the autonomic nervous system. It responds to temperature and can also respond to emotions. Having hyperhidrosis does not mean you caused it through anxious thinking.
Subconscious is a useful word for learned expectations that feel automatic, such as expecting a meeting to be embarrassing before it has begun. Hypnosis uses focused attention, imagery and personalised suggestions to work with those expectations and practise calmer responses.
What sweating hypnosis feels like
Hypnosis involves focused attention and often a comfortable sense of relaxation. People experience it differently: you may feel deeply settled or simply absorbed in the imagery and suggestions. You remain able to speak, ask questions and stop.
Sessions are collaborative and non-judgemental. You do not have to empty your mind, lose awareness or produce a particular sensation for us to work together.
Techniques used in hypnotherapy for excessive sweating
The techniques are tailored to your goals. Depending on what you need, sessions can include:
- relaxation and ways to settle general stress
- exploring beliefs about being noticed or judged
- suggestions for calmer, more confident responses
- comfortable imagery, such as a fresh breeze or cool water
- changing how you respond to a remembered embarrassing moment
- a brief grounding practice for meetings and social events
- directing attention back to the people around you
- self-hypnosis and rehearsal of situations you want to handle differently
Imagery is used as a relaxation and rehearsal tool. It is not a promise to switch off sweat glands or change the medical cause of hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis hypnotherapy alongside medical treatment
Medical treatments for hyperhidrosis include stronger antiperspirants, iontophoresis, injections and tablets. Iontophoresis uses a weak electrical current passed through water. Your GP or a dermatologist can advise on what suits you.
Hypnotherapy works alongside these treatments, focusing on the anxiety that can make sweating worse.
Is hypnotherapy for sweating right for you?
It may suit you if fear of sweating is limiting work or social life and you want to work on anxiety, confidence and avoidance. We discuss your goals and any medical support you receive before beginning.
You can enquire with or without a hyperhidrosis diagnosis. If excessive sweating has not been assessed, particularly if it is new or happens at night, arrange a GP review as well.
Choosing a hypnotherapist for hyperhidrosis
When choosing a hypnotherapist for hyperhidrosis, look for recognised qualifications and experience of working with anxiety and confidence. It also helps to feel at ease with the person you choose, as sweating can feel awkward to talk about. An initial consultation is a good chance to ask questions.
I hold the SQHP and HPD qualifications and have been practising as a clinical hypnotherapist since 2003.
The benefits of hypnotherapy for excessive sweating

- shaking hands with confidence
- wearing the clothes you like
- speaking up in meetings and presentations
- enjoying dates, hugs and holding hands
- feeling relaxed on warm days and crowded trains
- more confidence at work and socially

Research, sweating anxiety and medical guidance
A 2019 meta-analysis by Valentine and colleagues found reduced anxiety across the hypnosis studies reviewed. This research concerns anxiety; it does not establish hypnosis as a cure for hyperhidrosis. It informs work on anxious anticipation and distress around sweating.
The British Association of Dermatologists’ hyperhidrosis leaflet explains that anxiety can worsen sweating and that relaxation and counselling may help when anxiety plays a role. It also describes medical treatments. The NHS guide to excessive sweating explains practical options and when to see a GP.
Sweating hypnotherapy: frequently asked questions
Answers about hyperhidrosis, sweating anxiety, sweaty hands, your sessions and appointments in London or online.
Understanding excessive sweating and hypnotherapy
What is hypnotherapy for excessive sweating?
Hypnotherapy for excessive sweating focuses on anxiety, self-consciousness and the fear of being seen to sweat. We discuss your triggers, then use tailored hypnosis, imagery and rehearsal to practise calmer responses. If you have hyperhidrosis, this work can sit alongside medical treatment.
Can hypnotherapy help with hyperhidrosis?
It may help with the anxiety and avoidance surrounding hyperhidrosis, including the worry that can make sweating worse. It is not established as a cure for primary hyperhidrosis. We work on confidence and everyday situations while your GP or dermatologist advises on the sweating itself.
Is excessive sweating always caused by anxiety?
No. Excessive sweating can occur without an identifiable cause or be linked to a medical condition, hormonal changes or medication. Anxiety can add to sweating and can also develop because of it. A GP can assess possible causes and discuss appropriate treatment.
What is the difference between primary and secondary hyperhidrosis?
Primary hyperhidrosis has no identified underlying cause and often begins in childhood or adolescence, affecting areas such as the hands or armpits. Secondary hyperhidrosis is linked to another condition or medication. Your GP can help identify which pattern you have.
Why does worrying about sweating seem to make it worse?
Anxiety can trigger sweating. Noticing a damp palm or a patch on your shirt may then increase worry, creating a repeating cycle. Sessions focus on the anticipation, self-monitoring and fear of judgement that can keep that cycle going.
Does sweating mean I am unusually anxious?
No. People can have hyperhidrosis without being unusually anxious. Sweating can itself create understandable embarrassment and worry. We begin with your own experience rather than assuming a personality type or treating every cause of sweating as psychological.
Is there research on hypnosis for sweating?
Research on hypnosis for anxiety provides a reason to explore its role in sweating-related worry, but it does not establish hypnosis as a cure for hyperhidrosis. The research section links to an anxiety meta-analysis and dermatology guidance, with the distinction made clear.
Can hypnosis stop all sweating permanently?
No responsible practitioner can promise that. Sweating is a normal cooling response, and hyperhidrosis may need medical treatment. My work aims to reduce the anxiety, embarrassment and restriction around sweating, with goals based on your circumstances rather than guaranteed dryness.
Sweaty hands, underarms, face and everyday triggers
Can hypnotherapy help with sweaty hands and handshakes?
Sessions can focus on the anticipation and embarrassment around damp palms, including meetings, introductions and holding hands. We rehearse those situations with a calmer response and less self-checking. For palmar hyperhidrosis itself, a GP or dermatologist can discuss medical options.
Can you help with anxiety about underarm sweat patches?
Yes. We can work on the fear of visible patches, repeated clothes-checking and worries about what other people think. The aim is to feel less restricted at work and socially while continuing useful practical measures and any recommended sweating treatment.
Can hypnotherapy help with facial sweating?
We can address the self-consciousness and anticipation that arise when your forehead, face or scalp sweats in public. Sessions may include rehearsal of conversations, meals or presentations. If the sweating is new, persistent or unexplained, arrange a medical assessment too.
What if I blush as well as sweat?
We can work on the shared fear of being noticed or judged, including checking how warm or red you feel. The blushing hypnotherapy page explains that work in more detail. We agree goals around participating more comfortably in the situations you currently find difficult.
Can you help with sweating during presentations or interviews?
Yes. We can rehearse arriving, speaking, answering questions and staying focused on what you want to communicate. The session addresses anxious predictions about sweating and judgement, so your attention can return to the task rather than continually monitoring your body.
Can hypnotherapy help with sweating anxiety on dates?
Yes. We can focus on worries about sitting close, hugging or holding hands and the fear that sweating will determine what someone thinks of you. We practise responding more comfortably so you can engage with the person and conversation.
What if I avoid social events because I might sweat?
We can explore what you expect will happen and agree manageable steps towards situations you want to enjoy again. Hypnosis can include rehearsal of those steps, alongside practical ways to stay present. You do not have to begin with the most difficult event.
Can sessions help if I keep checking my clothes or wiping my hands?
Yes. We distinguish useful practical care from repeated checking driven by fear. The work can include shifting attention away from monitoring, tolerating uncertainty about what others notice and gradually reducing habits that are making daily life more restrictive.
Medical care and practical support
Should I see a GP before booking sweating hypnotherapy?
Arrange a GP review if excessive sweating is persistent, affects daily life, occurs at night or may be linked to medication. A medical assessment can identify causes and treatment options. You can contact me meanwhile to discuss support for the anxiety surrounding it.
What if I sweat heavily even when I feel calm?
Sweating without obvious anxiety can happen with hyperhidrosis and other conditions. It deserves medical assessment rather than an assumption that you must be stressed. Hypnotherapy may still be useful if the sweating has led to embarrassment, avoidance or fear of future episodes.
Can hypnotherapy treat night sweats?
Unexplained or recurring night sweats should be discussed with your GP, especially if they wake you or worry you. Hypnotherapy can support stress and sleep-related anxiety where appropriate, but it should not be used to explain away or diagnose night sweating.
What if my sweating is related to menopause or medication?
Your GP or prescribing clinician can advise on the underlying cause and suitable treatment. Do not stop or change prescribed medicine yourself. Sessions can address worry and confidence around sweating, alongside the medical support you receive.
Can I continue antiperspirants, iontophoresis or injections?
Yes. Hypnotherapy can work alongside treatment recommended by your GP or dermatologist. Tell me what you are using so our goals fit your care. Questions about changing antiperspirants, iontophoresis, injections or tablets should go to the clinician advising on them.
What is the difference between an antiperspirant and deodorant?
An antiperspirant reduces sweating, while a deodorant targets odour; some products combine both. A pharmacist can advise on stronger antiperspirants and suitable practical products. Hypnotherapy addresses the anxiety and self-consciousness surrounding sweating rather than replacing those products.
Are there practical things I can do alongside hypnosis?
Breathable, loose clothing and advice from a pharmacist about suitable antiperspirants or absorbent pads may help. Notice your own triggers, such as alcohol or spicy food. In sessions, we connect practical care with less fear-driven checking and more confidence in daily situations.
Do I need a hyperhidrosis diagnosis to enquire?
No. You can contact me if worry about sweating is restricting your life, with or without a diagnosis. We discuss your situation and any medical assessment. If symptoms have not been checked, I may suggest a GP review alongside work on the anxiety.
Your hypnosis sessions and recording
What happens at the first sweating hypnotherapy appointment?
We talk about when sweating worries you, what you avoid and what you would like to do more comfortably. I explain the approach and answer questions. The first appointment includes personalised hypnosis as well as the consultation, so the therapeutic work begins straight away.
How much does sweating hypnotherapy cost?
Sessions cost £198 including VAT and last approximately 50 minutes. Your first appointment includes consultation and hypnosis, and you receive a personalised recording for practice between appointments. The same session fee applies in London near Liverpool Street and online.
How many sweating hypnotherapy sessions will I need?
I usually work with clients over around four to six sessions, but the number varies. We agree goals and review progress rather than promise a fixed result. Some people choose further support for longstanding anxiety or avoidance.
Is a personalised hypnosis recording included?
Yes. You receive the recording of your session to use between appointments. It reinforces the imagery and suggestions we have used together. We discuss a regular listening routine that fits your day and gives you time to relax without interruptions.
Can I listen to my hypnosis recording before a meeting?
Yes, if you can set aside time in a safe, quiet place beforehand. Do not listen while driving, cycling or doing work that requires alertness. For use during a meeting, we can practise a brief grounding technique that keeps you fully attentive.
Will I remain in control during sweating hypnosis?
Yes. You remain able to speak, ask questions or stop. Hypnosis is a collaborative process using attention, imagery and suggestions agreed around your goals. You do not have to reveal anything you do not want to discuss or surrender control.
What if I find it hard to relax or my mind wanders?
You can tell me and I adapt the approach. You do not need to empty your mind or feel deeply relaxed throughout. We can work with distractions and use imagery or suggestions that feel comfortable and relevant to you.
How will we judge progress if I still sweat?
Progress may include less dread before meetings, fewer checks for patches, accepting invitations or staying engaged in conversation even if you notice sweating. We agree the changes that matter to you and review those, alongside any medical treatment for the amount you sweat.
